Disruptions occurred at a stadium in Kolkata, India, following Lionel Messi’s brief visit. The captain of the Argentina national team visited the country as part of a three-day tour in December this year.
On December 12, Messi participated in the unveiling ceremony of a 21-meter statue dedicated to him. The event was held at a stadium with a capacity of 70,000 spectators. During the artistic event, Messi mostly participated via video call and left the stadium roughly 20 minutes later. He waved to the stands and signed jerseys for select guests before departing.
Afterwards, fans at the stadium disrupted order, throwing seats, podiums, and other objects onto the field. It has been reported that significant damage was caused to the sports facility as a result.
