Terrible accident in Japan: 57 cars collided with a chain stall

A major traffic accident occurred in Japan, with dozens of cars colliding simultaneously. As a result of the tragedy, several cars caught fire, and rescue operations lasted for hours.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday at approximately 7:30 PM on the Kanetsu highway, which passes through Gunma Prefecture. According to preliminary data, the collision of two trucks caused a chain accident, as a result of which 57 vehicles stopped on different sections of the road.

As a result of the heavy clashes, more than 10 cars caught fire. Firefighters needed about 7.5 hours to completely extinguish the fire. Rescuers operated in conditions of high temperature and explosion hazard.

According to police, two people died as a result of the incident. Their bodies were found in burned vehicles. One of the deceased was a 77-year-old woman. Additionally, 26 people sustained injuries of varying degrees, five of whom were hospitalized in serious condition.

Investigative bodies cite unfavorable weather conditions as the main cause of the tragedy. In particular, heavy snowfall and extremely slippery road surface created a dangerous situation for drivers.

Currently, the Kanetsu Expressway remains closed in both directions between the Yuzawa and Sukiyono intersections. Although tow trucks have begun removing damaged vehicles, it is said that it will take some more time to completely clear the road and restore it to a safe condition.
