Trump’s Statement on International Politics: Morality, Limits and Global Ambitions

In an interview with The New York Times, U.S. President Donald Trump outlined his views on foreign policy. He stressed that he relies not on international law but on his own morality, and spoke about the limits of his power on the global stage.

According to Trump, he does not consider international law important and does not need it. He sees his own morality and judgment as the key factor, serving as the only constraint on his politics. “I don’t want to hurt people. But only my morality can stop my actions,” he emphasized.

Trump also said he is ready to resort to military action to pressure other states and touched on the issue of Greenland. The president hinted that NATO or Greenland should not be overlooked, but noted that, in his view, the transatlantic alliance is useless without the United States.

Speaking about Cuba, Trump called the island a “major disaster” and proposed increasing pressure on it. At the same time, he described the Cuban people as “great” and “tough.” “I think there isn’t much left for pressure there other than going there,” Trump said.

In this interview, Trump displayed a blunt and unpredictable view of foreign policy, and his favored talking points and strategic outlook added another explanation of U.S. ambitions on the international stage.
