Can Trump’s “Peace Council” resolve the conflicts in Ukraine and Venezuela

There are proposals to extend the powers of the “Peace Council,” established by U.S. President Donald Trump to stabilize the situation in the Gaza Strip, to Ukraine, Venezuela, and other hotspots. According to the UK’s Financial Times, U.S. officials plan to turn this international body into a key mechanism for resolving global crises.
The Davos forum and a new peace strategy
A large-scale presentation of the plan is expected to take place during the World Economic Forum, which begins on January 20 in Davos, Switzerland. While some White House officials believe the council should, for now, focus only on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Middle East, diplomatic circles are actively debating expanding the council’s reach.
Venezuela and Ukraine: new challenges
U.S. officials also support applying the “Peace Council” model to Venezuela, where a political vacuum emerged after an operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.
On Ukraine, the situation is even more serious:
- A separate structure: According to Kyiv representatives, under Trump’s leadership a special council could be created specifically to stop the Russia–Ukraine war.
- Participants: The council is expected to include representatives of Ukraine, Russia, the European Union, and NATO.
- A 20-point plan: The body is expected to oversee implementation of a peace program developed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and described as “90% ready.”
Diplomatic concerns and obstacles
Diplomats from the West and the Arab world view Trump’s initiative with some skepticism. Their main concern is that the “Peace Council” could become an alternative to the United Nations (UN) and a separate “shadow” structure operating in parallel.
In addition, the core problem remains the lack of compromise. Moscow does not want to abandon its conditions, while Kyiv considers any territorial concessions completely unacceptable. Whether Trump’s “Peace Council” can bridge these conflicting positions will become clearer during the Davos talks.
Do you think Trump’s “Peace Council” can stop wars at a time when the UN is failing to fulfill its role?
