Zelenskyy spoke openly with Trump about peace in Davos

A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump took place in Davos, Switzerland. According to the White House, these negotiations within the framework of the World Economic Forum lasted about an hour on Thursday, January 22.
After the meeting, Trump told reporters that the conversation with Zelenskyy was "good." When asked what signal he would give to Russian President Vladimir Putin, he expressed the opinion that Russia's war against Ukraine must end. Trump also emphasized that both sides want peace.
Trump's statement and "approach" gesture
In a speech in Davos the day before, Trump stated that he had plans to meet with Zelenskyy and expressed confidence that the Ukrainian leader was ready for an agreement. According to the US president, they are "very close to it." At the same time, Trump once again emphasized the need to stop the war, which has been going on for almost four years.
Meeting against the backdrop of communication in Moscow
It was noted that the conversation between Zelenskyy and Trump in Davos took place several hours ago, on the eve of planned talks between US Special Representative Steve Whitkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. This situation further increased the political weight of the meeting: the world's attention turned simultaneously towards both Davos and the Kremlin.
Zelenskyy's position and conditions
Zelenskyy said on January 20 that there is a lot of urgent work in Ukraine due to the continuation of Russian airstrikes. According to him, his visit to Switzerland will only be meaningful if it serves a concrete result - if the document to be signed is ready, or if new, concrete promises of assistance in the supply of air defense equipment appear.
In short, it seems that the one-hour conversation in Davos was not "for the protocol," but to determine the next steps. Now the main question is one: will these words soon turn into real decisions and practical actions, or will they turn into another diplomatic "long dialogue"?
