Kyrgyzstan temporarily suspended animal imports from India

The Kyrgyz Republic has temporarily suspended the import of certain types of animals and livestock products from India. These restrictions came into force on January 28, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Kyrgyz Republic reported. That is, the decision was officially announced and began to operate from the specified date.

It is reported that the restrictions cover animals susceptible to the Nipah virus, as well as livestock products related to them. It is noted that this measure was adopted in order to prevent the spread of the virus within the country, reduce risks, and ensure veterinary and sanitary safety. In other words, the decision was launched as a mechanism of prevention and protection.

The Nipah virus is considered a dangerous zoonotic infection and can be transmitted from animals to humans. In this regard, the Service for Veterinary, Livestock, Pasture and Feed Production called on the population not to purchase livestock products of unknown origin, and also to pay special attention to the availability of veterinary documents attached to the products. According to specialists, in such cases compliance with documents, sources and rules sharply reduces the risk.

Authorized agencies reported that the situation is under constant control, and the duration of the restrictions will be reconsidered depending on the epidemiological situation. Thus, the ban is currently temporary, and the next decision is expected depending on how the situation changes.
