UAE reduces working hours by 2 hours during Ramadan

In connection with the month of Ramadan 2026, the daily working hours of private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates will be reduced by 2 hours. The Ministry of Labor Resources of the country provided official information about this on February 12.

It is noted that employees who usually work 8-9 hours work 6-7 hours during the month of Ramadan. Hours worked in excess of the established norm are counted as additional work and are paid separately.

Also, enterprises are allowed to establish flexible work schedules. In particular, it is possible to introduce remote work or change working hours within the framework of current legislation.

A simplified work regime also applies to employees of state institutions. Working hours from Monday to Thursday are from 09:00 to 14:30, and on Friday - until noon. However, areas requiring continuous operation are exceptions to this procedure.

It is reported that this decision was made to create opportunities for citizens to spend more time with their families, prayers, and spiritual activities.

According to astronomical calculations, Ramadan in 2026 is expected to begin on February 19 in the UAE and many Muslim countries.
