Trump seeks to interfere in Iran's leadership selection

US President Donald Trump has announced that he wants to have a say in the process of selecting Iran's new supreme leader. This statement has further heightened concerns about Washington's military objectives in the region. Following the death of Ali Khamenei, Iran's religious leadership is on the verge of making a decision regarding a new candidate. Khamenei's son is also mentioned among the contenders for this position. Reports semafor.com.
In an interview with Axios, Trump emphasized his intention to intervene in this process. He stated that he should participate in shaping Iran's leadership, just as in the case of Venezuela. However, analysts point out that there are significant differences between Tehran's ideological regime and the government model in Caracas.
The president's words contradict statements previously made by US officials that "we are not aiming for regime change in Iran." According to former American diplomats, if Washington truly attempts to change the regime, it could lead to costly chaos, similar to previous attempts.
