Zalghadr has been appointed as the head of Iran's National Security Council

Former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Muhammad Baghyr Zalghadr has been appointed to replace Ali Larijani, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, who was killed in early March during airstrikes by the US and Israel.

According to a source in Al Jazeera, the appointment was officially announced by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkiyon's Deputy Minister of Communications. This decision indicates significant changes in the country's political and military structure.

The report emphasizes that Zalghadr's new position could further strengthen the influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This change occurred especially during periods of increased uncertainty in the decision-making process at the highest level.

Recall that on March 18, 2026, Larijani, while in his apartment, was killed in a US and Israeli fighter jet strike, along with his son, one of his deputies, and several guards at his daughter's house.

According to political analysts, Zalghadr's appointment will be crucial for Iran's domestic political balance and foreign policy direction. This appointment will further strengthen the country's national security and military power and enhance the political influence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
