The diplomatic and legal confrontation between Türkiye and Israel has escalated to a new stage. Ankara is taking strict legal measures against Israel’s top leadership, which is being held responsible for the tragic events in Gaza. Zamin.uz presents the details of this historic indictment and the expected “thousand-year” sentences.
Serious charges against Netanyahu and his associates
The Turkish prosecutor’s office is demanding life imprisonment for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his close advisers, accusing them of genocide and crimes against humanity. According to Hürriyet, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has submitted an indictment to the court against 35 high-ranking Israeli officials. It is noted that sentences ranging from 1,102 to 4,596 years are being requested for the defendants.
Who is on the “black list”?
The list of defendants includes not only Netanyahu, but also some of the most well-known figures of Israel’s military and political elite:
- Israel Katz (Defense Minister);
- Yoav Gallant (former minister);
- Itamar Ben-Gvir (Minister of National Security);
- as well as high-ranking military leaders such as Eyal Zamir and David Saar Salama.
They are facing serious charges including organizing genocide, relentless bombing of the Gaza Strip, obstructing humanitarian aid to civilians, and gross violations of human rights.
The beginning of the investigation: the “Global Flotilla” incident
The trigger for this major criminal case was an incident that occurred in October 2025. At that time, activists from the “Global Flotilla”, who were trying to deliver medical and food aid to the population of Gaza, were forcibly stopped by the Israeli military. Turkish volunteers and doctors were unlawfully detained, and after being deported to their home country, Ankara officially launched an investigation.
Erdogan’s firm position
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has repeatedly strongly condemned the actions of the Israeli government on international platforms. According to Erdoğan, Ankara will continue to defend the Palestinian people, who are being subjected to aggression, as well as other oppressed nations in the region. This court process is seen as Turkey’s legal and moral response to Israel’s policy.
This court case remains in the focus of the international community, awaiting how it will proceed under international law.
Dear readers, do you think this Turkish court decision could increase international pressure on Israel? Will the punishment of those accused of genocide help restore justice?
