Strait of Hormuz closed again: Regional tensions escalate

The Iranian side has officially announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The IRNA news agency reported the development.

A representative of the "Khatam al-Anbiya" Central Command stated that the Strait of Hormuz has been returned to a closed regime due to continued pressure and blockade actions by the United States on maritime routes.

The official statement noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran had previously allowed the passage of a limited volume of oil and commercial vessels in accordance with prior agreements.

However, the command representative emphasized that the United States violated its promises and continued to strengthen pressure and control over sea routes. Consequently, Iran was forced to reinstate the previous strict regime over the Strait of Hormuz.

"Now, this strategic waterway will be under the full control of the Iranian armed forces," the statement reads.

Additionally, the representative added that the situation in the strait will remain under strict control as long as the United States fails to ensure complete freedom of movement for all vessels entering and leaving Iran.

On April 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been opened to commercial vessels for a certain period. This decision was reportedly made within the framework of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

However, despite Tehran's statement, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized that the naval blockade of Iran remains in effect.
