Xi Jinping Welcomes Donald Trump in Beijing with Ceremony

The Chinese capital, Beijing, is hosting a historic meeting. On May 14, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping organized a high-level reception for US President Donald Trump, who is visiting the country. The White House leader was welcomed with military honors and respect at the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square.

A step toward a "great common future"

At the beginning of the negotiations, the leaders of the two countries exchanged warm greetings. Donald Trump stated that it was a great honor for him to be friends with Xi Jinping and emphasized that the relations between the two countries would reach a new level. "A great common future awaits us," the US President expressed with confidence.

In turn, Xi Jinping noted the importance of this visit at a time when the world is at a new turning point. According to the Chinese leader, acting as partners rather than competitors is beneficial not only for the two nations but for the entire world.

Delegation composition: Government and business giants

Trump is accompanied on his trip by the most influential US politicians and major business representatives:

  • Politicians: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

  • Business leaders: Apple CEO Tim Cook and Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

Focus: Global issues and trade

The agenda includes highly important and sensitive topics. The main focus is expected to be on the situation in the Middle East, particularly the confrontation between the US, Israel, and Iran. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that Washington hopes for China's assistance in easing the maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, as the closure of this route negatively impacts Chinese exports and the global energy market.

In addition, the parties will discuss the following issues:

  1. The situation around Taiwan;

  2. Bilateral trade relations;

  3. Continuation of previous agreements on rare earth metal exports and tariff reductions.

As a reminder, during a meeting in South Korea in October 2025, the leaders reached important agreements on reducing trade barriers. Donald Trump's two-day visit is expected to be a logical continuation of these dialogues.

Do you think this meeting between the US and Chinese leaders will help reduce tensions in the global economy?
