Lotus is preparing to update its popular Emira sports car. Starting in 2027, the model will be equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged hybrid engine developed by Horse, a joint venture between Geely and Renault. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .

Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng confirmed that the new Horse V6 engine will completely replace the currently used Toyota and AMG units. This new engine produces 536 horsepower and weighs only 160 kg, making it one of the lightest and most efficient units in its class.

The hybrid system is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and an integrated electric motor. This solution increases the vehicle's power while reducing harmful emissions. Lotus made this decision considering the high demand for V6 engines from customers in the US market.

The historic factory in Hethel, UK, will remain the main production site not only for the Emira but also for the new V8 hybrid supercar, the Esprit, scheduled for production in 2028. A reduction in customs tariffs for cars exported to the US to 10% will allow the plant to increase production capacity to 10,000 units per year.
