Fiat Panda and Citroën 2CV: Affordable EVs to Conquer the Market

Stellantis plans to expand its range of affordable city EVs priced under £15,000 (approx. $19,000). Emanuele Cappellano, head of the company's European division, expressed 95% confidence in the production of right-hand drive versions of the new generation Fiat Panda and Citroën 2CV. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk .

The industrial giant is developing a dedicated “E-car” platform for EVs not exceeding 4.2 meters in length, compliant with the EU's new M1E class. The first two models, Citroën 2CV and Fiat Panda, are confirmed to enter the assembly line at the Pomigliano plant in Italy starting in 2028.

Cappellano emphasized that to achieve the €15,000 target price, the platform must be designed from the outset exclusively as a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle). He also did not rule out that other brands like Peugeot and Vauxhall could join this project. Currently, Stellantis is also exploring partnerships with Chinese OEMs to refine the platform.

The new M1E regulations provide “super-credits” for manufacturers of small EVs produced in Europe, helping companies lower their overall emission targets. Although right-hand drive vehicles require additional investment, Stellantis aims to sell these affordable models in the British market as well.

Competition in this segment is intensifying. For instance, the new Renault Twingo is also expected to hit the market in a right-hand drive version with a slight delay. Through its new platform, Stellantis aims to lead the affordable EV market by increasing efficiency in battery and electric motor technologies.
