Famous brand plans to manufacture cars in Uzbekistan

The renowned German automotive group Volkswagen aims to establish large-scale assembly production in Tashkent as part of a program to further develop Uzbekistan's automotive industry. This was reported by the British publication Just Auto.
It is reported that in the initial phase of the project, the establishment of a semi-knocked-down (SKD) assembly process in the capital, Tashkent, is planned. Subsequently, high-level localization of production is envisioned within the Angren Free Economic Zone.
It is noted that this project will be implemented in cooperation with the state-owned company UzAutoSanoat, which signed a strategic partnership agreement in June 2025.
The article highlights that Uzbekistan's automotive industry has demonstrated stable growth rates in recent years. Currently, five automobile plants operate in the country, producing vehicles in partnership with international brands such as Chevrolet, BYD, KIA, and Hyundai.
The report states that over 10,000 specialists are employed in the sector, and more than 300 local enterprises supply components to automotive manufacturers.
At the same time, it is noted that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has set the task of further deepening the localization of production, expanding research and development, and preparing a comprehensive strategy for the development of the auto components market by the end of 2026.
