Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio shared that at the very beginning of his career, he encountered an unusual suggestion to change his name.
According to the actor, when he signed with his first agent at the age of 12–13, the agent considered his real name “too ethnic.” Therefore, he advised young DiCaprio to perform under a different stage name.
The agent even came up with one — Lenny Williams. He shortened DiCaprio’s first name, and the last name was entirely made up. “You are now Lenny Williams,” the actor recalled his agent’s words during the “New Heights” podcast.
However, the actor’s father strongly opposed this idea. After seeing a photo of his son signed with the stage name, he became angry and said: “Over my dead body,” giving a categorical refusal.
As a result, DiCaprio kept his real name and later achieved worldwide fame with it.
