The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the precise strike took place on the evening of March 31. Military officials stated that Hashem was responsible for directing rocket and drone attacks against Israel and managing combat operations in southern Lebanon. Sources close to Hezbollah described him as the highest-ranking official targeted since the conflict escalated.
The strike caused loud explosions and sent plumes of smoke over Beirut, an area where many displaced residents are currently sleeping outdoors. According to Lebanese health authorities, the ongoing conflict has claimed 1,318 lives, including women, children, and medical personnel, with thousands more injured since early March.
Tensions continue to rise as Hezbollah and Israeli forces engage in direct clashes. The Israeli military recently announced plans to expand its ground operations against the group and destroyed a key bridge over the Litani River to disrupt weapon supply lines in southern Lebanon.
