14-year-old Chinese student builds jet engine at home
Che Jingang, a 14-year-old student from China, has garnered international attention for successfully designing and building a functional jet engine in his own home. The teenager spent eight months and approximately 9,000 yuan on the project, conducting his own aerodynamic calculations and creating original 2D and 3D models without using pre-existing blueprints. Although the initial test of the prototype was not entirely successful, Che remains undeterred and is currently working on an improved version of the engine. His remarkable achievement reflects a lifelong passion for aviation that evolved from folding paper airplanes into mastering complex mechanical engineering.

It is reported that his interest in aviation began in childhood by making paper airplanes. This hobby later evolved into scientific research, leading the teenager to independently conduct an in-depth study of aerodynamics and engineering fields.
Che Jingan did not use ready-made blueprints, instead working on the project from scratch. He designed the components himself, creating 2D and 3D models, and performed complex calculations regarding airflow and pressure.
Work on the engine lasted approximately eight months, with the project costing around 8,000–9,000 yuan. Despite the initial trial ending in failure, the teenager did not stop his research.
Currently, he is working on creating an improved version of the engine. He emphasizes that failure is an important part of gaining experience and serves as motivation toward even greater goals.
