Dispute Over a Water Source in Africa Turns into Bloody Clashes

A violent dispute over a water source in eastern Chad’s Igote region has left at least 42 people dead and 10 others injured. The conflict, which reportedly began as a disagreement between two families, rapidly escalated into a series of retaliatory attacks across the area. In response, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno dispatched a high-level government delegation, including the Defense Minister, to restore order and stabilize the region. Authorities are now pursuing both judicial measures and mediation efforts to resolve what they describe as a long-standing family feud.

According to Tchad Infos, a simple quarrel quickly intensified into acts of revenge, causing violence across the entire area. In order to stabilize the situation, the country’s president, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, sent a high-level delegation to the region.
The mission also included Deputy Prime Minister Liman Mahamat and Minister of Defense Issaka Maloua Djamous.
According to officials, this situation is not a simple intercommunal clash, but a long-running family dispute.
The government is considering mediation measures along with legal proceedings to ease the situation.
