It is noted that Iran intends to demand payment from the world's largest technology corporations for using the internet cables running along the bottom of the Strait of Hormuz. If companies do not make the specified payments, vague threats are being made that their internet traffic could be cut off.
According to CNN, Tehran is demanding that companies like Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon comply with Iranian law. At the same time, companies working with underwater cables may be required to pay license fees, and the rights to repair and maintain them could be granted exclusively to Iranian companies.
