New norms for duty-free import of goods into Uzbekistan have been established

New norms for duty-free import of goods into Uzbekistan have been established
The government of Uzbekistan has reduced the duty-free import rates for goods imported into the republic for personal non-commercial purposes by individuals arriving by plane and train.

According to the resolution signed by the Prime Minister today, April 19, the duty-free import rates will be set as follows from May 1, 2025:
  • by air transport - $1,000 (currently $2,000);
  • by rail and river transport - $500 (currently $1,000);
  • through automobile (pedestrian) checkpoints - $300 (unchanged);
  • by international courier shipments - $200 per month (currently $1,000 per quarter);
  • by international postal shipments - $100 (unchanged).

It is noted that if a person importing goods for non-commercial purposes by rail and river transport and through automobile checkpoints stays in a foreign country for less than 2 days, and by air transport for less than 3 days, the duty-free import norms are not applied. In this case, these goods are considered to exceed the duty-free import norm and a single customs payment is levied on the full value of the goods.

Goods worth up to the equivalent of $5,000 may be exported from the republic by individuals without submitting a customs declaration, with the exception of goods for which export customs duties are imposed.

The document also approved a list of goods whose customs value and quantity are subject to separate control during the import process. The list includes 70 types of goods. These include household appliances, food, a number of types of clothing and footwear, cleaning and detergents, toys, tires, and metal products. Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov was instructed to introduce an effective mechanism for controlling the value and quantity of goods on this list and to prevent any exceptions.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard shall establish cooperation with the Customs Committee to prevent citizens from disobeying the lawful requirements of officials of authorized state bodies at border customs posts, organizing resistance, and violating public order,” the resolution says.
