Kazakhstan's national company QazaqGaz has announced that by 2025, the transit volume of Russian natural gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan is expected to reach 6 billion cubic meters. This figure reflects the rapid development of regional energy cooperation.
This partnership began in October 2023. For the current year, 2024, the transit volume is planned to reach 5.6 billion cubic meters.
The gas delivery is being carried out in a reverse direction through the "Central Asia - Center" gas pipeline, following the signing of relevant agreements between the parties.
Comprehensive repairs are being undertaken to enhance the pipeline’s capacity and ensure its stability. According to the responsible company, "KazTransGaz," more than 10,000 defects have been identified along various sections of the pipeline network.
To date, over 6,000 of these defects have been addressed, significantly improving the reliability of the infrastructure. Currently, the daily gas transit volume to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan has stabilized at approximately 18 million cubic meters.
In the long term, there is potential to increase the annual transit volume to 11 billion cubic meters. The company "Intergas Central Asia" has indicated its readiness to further modernize the infrastructure to accommodate growing volumes.
Against the backdrop of increasing gas imports from Russia, Uzbekistan's external trade metrics in the sector reveal a complex picture. By early October 2025, the expenses for importing gas from abroad amounted to $932.3 million.
However, this figure represents a 29.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. At the same time, Uzbekistan is increasing its gas export volumes, earning $546.2 million in revenue, which shows an annual growth of 15.4%.
