The pressing issue of foods that pose a risk to children’s health has once again come to the fore, reported RIA Novosti. This time, dietitian and deputy head of the Association of Public Nutrition and Health Specialists Alla Porkhun especially emphasized that certain foods in children’s diets can be a particularly serious source of danger.
According to her, nuts and grapes are considered one of the main and most common causes of choking in infants. Parents need to seriously consider before giving these fruits and nuts to children, as an unsupervised child trying to eat these foods could easily block their airways.
Honey, in turn, carries another additional risk — botulism infection. Therefore, honey is strictly not recommended for children under one year old. This infection can lead to serious complications.
Children should also stay away from carbonated and energy drinks that are high in sugar and caffeine. According to the dietitian, these drinks not only erode children’s tooth enamel but also seriously damage the nervous system. This can lead to insomnia, irritability, and even behavioral changes in children.
Alla Porkhun also mentioned cheap confectionery, fast food, and margarine. She separately noted that the trans fats in these products raise cholesterol levels in the blood and promote chronic inflammation in the body. If such foods are consumed for a long time, children are at increased risk of developing health problems.
Dietitian and doctor of medical sciences Mariyat Mukhina spoke about the dangers of artificial food dyes. According to her, these dyes can cause severe allergic reactions, conjunctivitis, and even blindness. Therefore, parents should be extremely careful when choosing food for their children.
In conclusion, protecting children from harmful foods is one of the most important tasks of every parent. If this is approached responsibly, our children will grow up healthy and strong.
