Rare parrots in India
In India, the Vantara wildlife center owned by the Ambani family sparked international disputes after importing Spix’s macaws. Brazil says these birds should only be part of its conservation program.

Spix’s macaws were declared extinct in the wild in 2019. Through captive breeding, some of them have been reintroduced into the wild in Brazil.

The Vantara center presents itself as a conservation facility. It houses more than 2,000 animals, most of them brought from abroad.

The Supreme Court of India found no violations in the center’s activities. However, Brazil and European countries continue to monitor the issue.
