In recent years, new factors affecting human health have been widely studied. Among them, one of the most dangerous and often invisible factors is plastic microparticles. It is no coincidence that many studies are being conducted in scientific circles on the accumulation of these particles in the body, in particular, their negative impact on brain function and mental health.
Dangerous composition in sweets and chips
A recent study published in the journal “Brain Medicine” concluded that processed foods that humans often consume in their diet (sweet drinks, chips, convenience foods, nuggets, etc.) are rich in plastic microparticles, which have a very serious impact on health. For example, compared to natural chicken fillet, it was found that one gram of nuggets contains 30 times more microplastics.
These particles enter the human body through food and have a much stronger effect than other substances. They cross the blood-brain barrier, a special protective barrier that protects the brain, and affect neuronal activity. This can lead to changes in mental health, including depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and other neurological disorders.
Serious warning from experts
According to Nicholas Fabiano, a psychiatrist at the University of Ottawa, the most dangerous part of the issue is that these particles are constantly entering the body through our daily diet. “In the United States, more than 50 percent of the daily diet consists of processed foods and products containing microplastics. This trend poses a serious threat to health systems around the world,” says Fabiano.
Researchers say that these substances can accumulate in the brain to dangerous concentrations. This can further exacerbate mental health problems in humans. It is worth noting that the brain is one of the most protected, but also the most delicate organs in the human body. The accumulation of microscopic substances that negatively affect it can lead to serious consequences in the long term.
