In India, a temporary ban on cough syrups has been decided, as at least 14 children have died in the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh over the past month. Initially, the children showed symptoms of a cold, but later their condition worsened, and cases of renal failure and loss of consciousness were noted.
Officials have temporarily suspended the sale of cough syrups found in the homes of children who died. Some experts attribute this condition to poisoning, while others suggest it may be caused by the rare Chandipura virus.
Currently, 22 batches of syrup are prohibited. In Rajasthan, several children died after drinking syrup, and a doctor, in order to check for his safety, drank and lost consciousness.
It should be recalled that in 2022, 69 children died in Uzbekistan due to the syrup "Dok-1 Max" produced in India.
