The doctor mentioned ineffective methods of fighting colds

Onions, garlic, vitamin C, steam inhalations, and herbal preparations (echinacea) have not been proven effective in treating colds. This was announced by Dr. Guadelupe Blay (Spanish National University of Distance Learning) in an interview with Infosalus.

The expert emphasized that none of the "folk" remedies are capable of destroying the virus or significantly alleviating the course of the disease. The smell of onions can irritate mucous membranes, and garlic, despite having moderate antibacterial properties, can cause stomach diseases.

The doctor also warned against inhaling hot steam: although it temporarily alleviates nasal congestion, the steam does not eliminate viruses. In addition, careless inhalations increase the risk of burns to the respiratory tract. Blaye noted that the use of echinacea and other herbal remedies has not been clinically confirmed and is not recommended.

"As for sparkling candies, the information about them contradicts each other: when used on the first day, they can shorten the duration of the disease, but side effects such as nausea and toxicity can be observed," the expert said.

The doctor listed the following as effective ways to relieve colds: consuming honey, rinsing the nose with a salt solution, rinsing the throat, humidifying the air, and drinking plenty of water.
