Fraudster on "Instagram" held accountable

According to the press service of the Cybersecurity Center under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a person who committed an internet fraud crime has been detained.

The victim, a resident of Qorgontepa district born in 2004, reported to law enforcement agencies that an unknown person gained his trust and fraudulently appropriated 2,000,000 soms. It was revealed that the victim contacted the fraudster through the social network Instagram, intending to buy an iPhone mobile phone. The fraudster promised to deliver the phone via Kyrgyzstan and demanded an advance payment. The owners of the Instagram profile actively promoted advertisements for selling mobile phones on an interest-free installment basis.

As a result of operational-search measures, it was established that the crime was committed by a resident of Andijan district born in 2004. One laptop, three iPhone mobile phones, and two plastic cards containing funds received from the victims were found and confiscated from him. To avoid responsibility, he used a foreign country's phone number. A criminal case was initiated against the fraudster under Part 3 of the "Fraud" article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and he may face up to 8 years of imprisonment.
