Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have agreed to jointly manage the Amu Darya water basin, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

A delegation led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Abduzukhurov paid a working visit to Afghanistan. During the visit, important strategic agreements were reached on agriculture, water resources management, and trade and economic relations between the two countries.

"During the visit to Afghanistan, an important agreement was signed on the joint management of the Amu Darya water basin and the equitable and rational use of water. This document will determine not only bilateral cooperation, but also future mutually responsible approaches to environmental sustainability and transboundary water resources in Central Asia," the press release said.

The members of the delegation also held talks with the leadership of the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock. It was noted that the "Friendship Garden" will be built as a practical example of Uzbek-Afghan agrarian cooperation.

"During the visit, a 100-hectare area was inspected on the territory of Afghanistan, where it is planned to build the "Friendship Garden" as a practical example of Uzbek-Afghan agrarian cooperation," the report said.

The garden project envisages the introduction of modern agricultural technologies and joint work of specialists from the agricultural sectors of the two countries.

“The project is expected to develop intensive horticulture in Afghanistan, increase the potential for fruit production, create new jobs for the local population, and pave the way for sustainable economic growth in the region,” the report said.

It is said that this initiative is an important manifestation of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
