At Samarkand International Airport, customs officers stopped a passenger bound for Istanbul who attempted to smuggle two ancient gold coins out of the country. The incident was reported by the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan via its Telegram channel.
Investigation revealed that the coins were minted in 1923 in the Republic of Turkey — denominations of 100 and 65 kurush. Their estimated value is around 15 million UZS.
Authorities remind that exporting cultural property over 50 years old, including numismatic items, from Uzbekistan is strictly prohibited. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
