Secret group of Hizb ut-Tahrir exposed in Fergana

As a result of a targeted operational operation carried out in cooperation with the State Security Service and internal affairs bodies in Fergana region, the activities of another extremist group posing a serious threat to the security of the country have been stopped. It turned out that a person living in the city of Kokand and previously convicted of religious extremist activities, gathered around him four like-minded people born between 1965 and 1971 and secretly spread the ideas of the religious extremist organization "Hizb ut-Tahrir".

According to the investigation, this person, who was deprived of his liberty under Articles 159, 244-1 and 244-2 of the Criminal Code from 2000 to 2019, did not give up his religious beliefs even after serving his sentence. He and his group members have been holding regular meetings in various teahouses and restaurants in the city of Kokand over the past two years, promoting the hateful ideas of the extremist organization, reading Hizb ut-Tahrir publications and promoting the idea of ​​​​reestablishing the caliphate.

At the same time, it turned out during the investigation that members of this group regularly familiarized themselves with the organization's prohibited materials through closed channels on the Telegram messenger, strengthening their ideological beliefs.

Another member of the group was sentenced to 23 years in prison for extremist activities in previous years, and was released only in April 2024. It was reported that another colleague was also convicted of fraud. This once again shows how dangerous such groups are for society.

Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against these individuals under Articles 159 (Attack on the Constitutional System), 244-1 (Organization of Religious Extremism, Separatism, Fundamentalism or Other Prohibited Activities) and 244-2 (Storage and Distribution of Prohibited Materials) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and they have been placed under preventive detention.
