A Tragic Incident in Fergana Reminds Us: Timely Action Can Save Lives
June 24, 2025, a shocking incident occurred in the Buvayda district of Fergana region, one that could shake anyone. On a section of the Tashkent-Andijan highway, a minor child was left on the front seat of a parked Nexia car, putting his life in danger. What seemed like a minor moment quickly escalated, but thanks to the timely and heroic actions of a traffic police officer, Azim Khalifayev, a tragedy was averted.

According to eyewitnesses, the Nexia driver had briefly stopped to buy water from a nearby shop. After exiting the car, he locked it using a remote control, which triggered the automatic rise of the front windows. At that moment, the child inside had his head sticking out the window, and as the glass rose, it began to squeeze his neck, making it hard for him to breathe.

Just then, traffic officer Azim Khalifayev, who was passing by the store, noticed the scene. He approached the vehicle, saw the child’s critical condition, and first attempted to open the doors. When that failed, without hesitation, he broke the window and rescued the child.

According to the Information Service of the Road Safety Department, the child was struggling to breathe, his skin had turned pale, and he was almost unconscious. Thanks to the quick-thinking officer, the child's life was saved.

— “I stopped in front of the shop to buy water. I noticed a child’s head sticking out of the window of the Nexia in front of me. His face was pale and he was clearly having trouble breathing. I tried to open the door, but it didn’t work. Without hesitation, I broke the glass and pulled him out,” said Officer Azim Khalifayev.

A video of the incident spread widely on social media, drawing significant public attention. It showed the child’s distress, the officer’s swift response, and his high level of humanity.

It was later confirmed that the driver was the child’s uncle. He had seated the child in the front seat and entered the shop, locking the car. However, the automatic window mechanism posed a serious threat to the child’s life.

Fortunately, no lives were lost. Officer Azim Khalifayev’s courage saved not only the child’s life but, arguably, the future of an entire family.

It is important to note that no administrative action has been taken against the driver so far. Yet, this incident is a stark reminder of how dangerous negligence can be, especially when children are involved.

This case should serve as a strong warning for all drivers: never leave a child alone in a locked car. Always check every detail before locking and leaving your vehicle. Technology is meant to provide convenience, but in some cases, it can turn into a serious hazard.
