In recent times, there has been a disturbing increase in tragic drowning incidents. Just days before his wedding, a young man and his brother decided to swim in running water, but unfortunately, one of them drowned. In addition, in recent weeks, seven minors have lost their lives after drowning in home swimming pools.
As a result, not only a single family but entire communities are left grieving such losses. Drowning is considered one of the deadliest risks to human life. According to international studies, about 700 people die from drowning every day around the world — whether in rivers, seas, lakes, or even small home pools.
Experts say that especially in summer, youngsters and children may mistakenly think that bodies of water are safe and attempt to swim. Too often, children and teenagers are left unsupervised, or adults do not provide enough attention. Sometimes, people overestimate their swimming skills and enter dangerous waters, leading to tragic outcomes.
To prevent drownings, specialists recommend the following safety measures:
. Never leave children unattended near any body of water or swimming pool.
. Swimming in running water, canals, or lakes is extremely dangerous and not recommended.
. For small children, use armbands or extra safety equipment.
. Surround pools and keep access doors closed at all times.
. Strictly avoid swimming in prohibited areas, especially in local or tourist destinations.
Experts emphasize that drowning is dangerous for people of all ages but poses a much greater risk for children and teenagers. Parents must never leave their children unsupervised and should teach them water safety rules.
Every family should clearly explain to children the real dangers of water, warn them about risks, and always follow all safety guidelines. The consequences of drowning are tragic and can shatter the peace of any family.
