Uzbekistan’s President pardons 523 inmates on Independence Day

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning 523 inmates in honor of the country’s 34th Independence anniversary. This was reported by Kursiv.media.

According to the decree, 195 people were fully released from punishment, 147 were freed on parole, 87 had their sentences reduced, and 94 had their prison terms shortened.

Those pardoned include 8 foreign citizens (six of them from Tajikistan), 45 women, 31 elderly over 60 years old, 220 young people under 30 (including one minor), as well as 15 people convicted for involvement in banned organizations.

Authorities have been instructed to help the pardoned reintegrate into society and find jobs. For many, this decision marks a new beginning filled with hope.
