In Surkhandarya, a citizen was sentenced to imprisonment due to "likes"

A resident of the Surkhandarya region was sentenced to three years in prison for clicking a "class" (like) on a material banned on social media six years ago, according to the regional courts' official channel.

It was reported that in 2019, a person named U.A. distributed a lecture titled "Lovers of Paradise" posted by Abdugoni Umarov (Abdulloh domla) on the "Odnoklassniki.ru" website among his virtual friends by "liking" it. It is noted that this material is on the list of prohibited items for religious fanaticism.

The court charged U.A. under Article 244-1, Part 3, Clause "g" of the Criminal Code. That is, he was found guilty of distributing material that threatens public safety via the internet.

According to the verdict issued by the Kumkurgan District Court on July 1, 2025, U.A. was sentenced to 3 years in prison under Article 57 of the Criminal Code. He will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.

The court statement emphasizes that the committed crime falls under the category of serious crimes. However, taking into account mitigating circumstances, a much shorter period was assigned than provided for in the article.

As a reminder, the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan updated the list of materials containing extremist and fanatical ideas, prohibiting their distribution, storage, and display.
