Another case of fraud has been uncovered in the construction sector of Surkhandarya region. This time, it involved a bribe demanded under the pretext of “fast-tracking project documents.”
According to reports, an architect from a private design company gained the trust of a resident of Muzrabot district. He promised to “smoothly approve” the documents for the resident’s unfinished building through the relevant authorities in exchange for 17 million soums.
During a joint operation by the State Security Service and the Internal Affairs Department, the architect was caught red-handed while receiving the money.
However, the case did not end there. The investigation revealed that the architect intended to pass 1 million soums of the bribe to the head of the Muzrabot district Construction and Housing Utilities Department. That official was also detained while accepting the money.
A criminal case has been opened against both individuals, and the investigation is ongoing.
Law enforcement agencies reported that such incidents in the construction field have been increasing recently, prompting tighter control and transparency measures.
Experts warn that demanding bribes under the guise of expediting project approvals not only violates the law but also undermines construction quality.
The Surkhandarya incident once again proves that any deviation from justice will eventually be exposed.
