In Turkey, law enforcement agencies detained 5 citizens of Uzbekistan for attempting to smuggle gold.
It became known that a group of three women and two men flew from Uzbekistan via Istanbul to Nevşehir Airport in the Cappadocian region. During the inspection of their luggage, 61 kilograms 121 grams of gold were found.
During the investigation, it was established that the gold was melted and placed in meat grinders and mixers as spare parts. Experts note that this method resembled a highly developed smuggling scheme.
The Nevshehir Regional Police Department for Combating Smuggling and Organized Crime had prior information about the suspects. Therefore, a special raid was conducted as soon as they arrived at the airport.
Police officers also detained another person who allegedly met them at the airport. Currently, all suspects have been handed over to the judicial authorities, and the discovered gold has been confiscated.
According to officials, this is one of the largest cases of gold smuggling detected in Turkey in recent months.
