"Groom" who sold girl's yard sentenced to 9 years

A verdict has been issued in Tashkent in a widely discussed case involving the fraudulent sale of a house, zamin.uz reported. The criminal case against Sh.R., born in 1997, has been finalized in the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Court.

According to the court decision, he was found guilty under part 4, paragraph “a” of Article 168 of the Criminal Code — large-scale fraud — and sentenced to 9 years in prison. The sentence will be served in a general-regime colony.

In addition, the court ruled to recover almost 4.8 billion soums from Sh.R. in favor of the victims. It was also noted that the issue of annulling the purchase-and-sale contracts for the house must be resolved in civil court.

The court also issued a separate ruling to send materials to the prosecutor’s office to consider initiating a criminal case against other individuals connected to this matter.

What happened?

In August 2024, under the pretext of “solving pre-wedding problems,” Sh.R. abused the trust of a girl born in 1999. He convinced her—fearing she might lose her home—to temporarily mortgage the property, and then used the opportunity to sell the house to blogger and businessman Sanjar Karimov (Sanjik) for 240,000 dollars.

The incident caused major public outrage, and Sanjik later announced he intended to donate the house to an orphanage. However, authorities later stated that the documents had not been fully processed.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that Sh.R. was involved in several other fraud cases against citizens.
