An unpleasant incident that occurred in the city of Zarafshan in the Navoiy region has alarmed the public — a 3-year-old girl, during food preparation, accidentally put her hand into a meat grinder, and her fingers became trapped inside the metal device.
The mother immediately turned off the machine before the child lost consciousness, but since the fingers were tightly stuck inside the metal structure, she could not break the device. The woman immediately called an ambulance.
Medical workers arrived within 12 minutes and, to prevent the injury from worsening, were forced to carry the girl to the hospital together with the meat grinder.
According to Elmurod Akhatov, a traumatologist of Zarafshan city medical association, the girl was brought in a state of pain shock, with heavy bleeding in her left hand. Deep injuries were detected on her fingers and palm.
During the surgery that lasted more than 2 hours, doctors tried to restore the finger tendons, nerve fibers, and blood vessels. Akhatov noted that in children of this age, the vessels are extremely thin, requiring high precision.
Initially, doctors estimated the chance of saving the hand at less than 50 percent. Due to the depth of the injury and the damage to major vessels, the risk of necrosis and loss of function was high.
Currently, the girl’s condition is stable. She will need at least 2–3 months to restore some functions, and full motor recovery may take up to 6 months.
