Life Imprisonment for Pedophilia to be Introduced in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to significantly strengthen the responsibility for violence against women and children. One of the main changes is the introduction of life imprisonment for sexual crimes committed against minors. This was reported by podrobno.uznews.
These initiatives are noted in the program 'Year of Mahalla Development and Society Progress' and the draft state program for implementing the 'Uzbekistan - 2030' strategy. The documents envisage transferring the investigation of crimes related to sexual and other forms of violence against minors to the absolute jurisdiction of the prosecutor's office.
It is also planned to establish an institute of specially trained investigators and judges to handle such cases. Additionally, it is proposed to introduce administrative responsibility for parents or guardians who engage minors in marriage, as well as those who promote illegal marriages.
To prevent domestic violence, special educational programs designed for newlyweds will be expanded and strengthened, involving psychologists and lawyers. These norms are planned to come into force on April 1, 2026.
Earlier, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Dilnoza Azizova, proposed the initiative to impose life imprisonment for all forms of sexual violence against children. This was reportedly prompted by an incident in Namangan region where a man raped his 7-year-old relative. It is noted that he had previously been convicted several times for various crimes, including rape and satisfying sexual needs in an unnatural way through violence.
