Law enforcement officers have uncovered a large-scale cybercrime case involving a resident of Syrdarya region. According to preliminary findings, the suspect used a malicious APK file spread through Telegram to gain access to other people’s mobile devices.
Investigators say that after taking control of the phones, the suspect exploited information linked to the victims’ bank cards and illegally withdrew money. More than 200 citizens are believed to have suffered losses through this scheme, with total damage estimated at over 2 billion soums.
During the investigation, officials determined that the suspect had committed 121 cybercrimes in total. He has now been detained under procedural rules and placed in custody, while additional investigative actions are continuing.
Specialists are urging the public not to download apps or open links sent from unknown sources. They also advise citizens to take stronger steps to protect personal data and banking information from unauthorized access.
