Three pregnant cows electrocuted after power poles collapse in Jizzakh

Several cows were electrocuted in the Jizzakh region after old wooden power poles collapsed. The incident occurred in the village of Garasha on March 15, 2026, when a high-voltage power line fell, killing three pregnant cows belonging to a local resident. Reports Podrobno.uz.

Public activist Khayrulla Kilichev stated that the wooden poles in the village were installed in the 1950s. They have completely rotted, and their frequent collapses lead to dangerous incidents every year. Following the recent accident, the owner applied to the Farish district branch of the regional power grid enterprise for compensation but has received no response. Although workers brought concrete pillars to replace the damaged ones, they were simply left lying on the ground.

Local residents are expressing frustration over double standards in the energy sector. They note that electricity is cut off immediately for late payments, yet obtaining compensation for infrastructure-related damages is nearly impossible. Villagers are deeply concerned that these decaying poles pose a severe threat to human life.

Experts highlight that up to 75 percent of power grids and stations in Central Asia require urgent modernization. With electricity demand expected to increase by 40 percent by 2030, specialists recommend upgrading existing infrastructure alongside the gradual development of renewable energy sources.
