An attempt to illegally smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substance has been recorded on the territory of Tashkent International Airport in the capital. According to the State Customs Committee, a foreign passenger was detained while attempting to bring approximately 6.3 kg of “marijuana” into the country.
Officers of the border customs post of the “Tashkent-Aero” ICD conducted a thorough inspection of the hand luggage and baggage of one of the passengers who arrived from Bangkok. During the inspection, 12 polyethylene packages hidden among various parcels were discovered.
In accordance with the established procedure, with the participation of witnesses, when the packages were opened, it was found that inside there was a green-colored substance with a strong odor, which, according to the conclusion of the Central Customs Laboratory, turned out to be more than 6.3 kg of dried marijuana.
It is noted that this substance belongs to the category of narcotic drugs whose circulation is strictly prohibited on the territory of Uzbekistan. A criminal case has been initiated by the customs authorities regarding the incident.
It is also reported that the operational units of the “Tashkent-Aero” ICD continued active work in the first quarter of the current year. During this period, 15 cases of illegal transportation of about 30 kg of narcotic substances, including synthetic drugs, were prevented.
It is emphasized that the seized narcotic substances exceed the figures of the same period last year by 18 kg, which is assessed as a concerning trend.
