The Uzbekistan national team will play against the Persians in Tehran tomorrow as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round. Through the history of matches with Iran, we will remember the victory over Iran on the road as part of the 2014 World Cup qualifying round. We hope that Kapadze will be able to repeat the work of Qasimov.
Our national team, which started the final round of qualifying under the leadership of Vadim Abramov, played the first round against the Iranian national team. However, we were left with three points due to a goal conceded in the last minutes on our own field. Angered by the result, our football officials immediately dismissed Abramov after the match. Mirjalol Qasimov was appointed in his place.
In the return match in Tehran, the players will be led by Qasimov as head coach. The match against the team led by Carlos Queiroz was the first serious test for the coach. A victory would further improve the position of our national team in the group. In addition, revenge for the painful defeat in Tashkent was also required. The players were waiting for the 100,000-seat Ozodi Stadium. Before the match, our squad had significant losses.
Players such as Odil Akhmedov, Anzur Ismailov, and Temur Kapadze were not with the national team. In order not to be outdone, Fozil Musaev, Shohrukh Gadoev, Artem Filiposyan, and Islam Tokhtakhodjaev were included in the main squad. We will not discuss the Iranian squad too much. Stars such as Javad Nekunam, Ashkan Dejaga, and Reza Gujannajod are familiar to all of you.

From the first minutes of the match, the Persians tried to organize dangerous attacks and quickly open the score. In the 10th minute, Ashkan Dejaga passed the ball to his winger partner Andranik Teymuryan. The Iranian player passed it to Muhammad Nouri, who was opening up from the center. Nouri's long-range shot went into the net, which was guarded by Nesterov. However, the referee Ali Hamad Al-Badwawi did not count the goal. After Teymuryan's pass, the opponent's striker was offside in our penalty area. The first half of the match ended with a lot of fights and sharp clashes.
In the 71st minute of the second half, the opponent's player on the wing fouled our player Sanjar Tursunov and violated the rules of the game. As usual, Server Dzeparov approached the penalty spot marked by the referee. Ulugbek Bakaev converted the ball from the captain's pass into the penalty area and scored a historic goal in some sense. In practice, this brings victory and important three points.

Before this match, our national team had faced Iran at the 1998 Asian Games, the 2007 Asian Cup and the first round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, and had not achieved a positive result in any of them. After this match, we could not find a way into the Iranian goal again. In the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, coached by Samvel Babayan, we played Iran twice and failed to score a single goal. We shared valuable points with a score of 0:1 in Tashkent and 0:2 away. However, Abramov and Kasimov did a great job of this.
Although Abramov's team missed the opportunity, Queiroz's players suffered a lot. Kasimov went down in history as the coach who defeated Iran away at the magnificent "Ozodi". Bakaev is the only goal and player who has brought victory so far. By the way, the famous commentator Mirzahakim Tokhtamirzaev gave a great commentary on the match that day. In the match in Tashkent, Srechko Katanets's players proved that they can play with the Persians without any problems. We hope that tomorrow they will celebrate the victory at "Ozodi".
