Eldor Shomurodov shining at Roma: contract extended, and performance improving
The captain of the Uzbekistan national team and its all-time top scorer, Eldor Shomurodov, has once again hit great form at the club level. The 29-year-old striker has secured a solid place in the Roma lineup and has become one of the key players under the management of Claudio Ranieri.

Under Ranieri’s leadership, Shomurodov’s game has opened up. His dedication on the field, work ethic, and team play have been highly appreciated not only by the coach but also by the fans.

Contract extended, but salary reduced

According to several reputable Italian sources, Roma has extended the current contract with Shomurodov until June 30, 2026. The new deal was signed based on the club’s ongoing financial policy — the Uzbek striker’s salary was slightly reduced.

Previously, Roma also extended contracts with Nicolo Pisilli and Leandro Paredes. Now, the club has also strengthened cooperation with Shomurodov.

Eldor could have left, but…

Not long ago, Roma tried twice to part ways with Shomurodov. First, his transfer to the MLS club Atlanta United fell through. Then in the winter, the Romans wanted to send our compatriot to Venezia.

However, one crucial goal changed everything — in the Europa League match against Eintracht, Eldor scored a decisive goal. After that, Ranieri confirmed that Shomurodov would stay at Roma, and the transfer was blocked.

From the bench — to hero status

Although Shomurodov often comes on as a substitute, his impact on the game is significant. He brings important points to the team and helps in key situations. Thanks to Eldor, Roma continues to compete for a spot in the UEFA Champions League.

Leaving his mark in Italian football

Shomurodov moved to Italian club Genoa from Russian side Rostov in October 2020. After a successful debut season in Serie A, Roma bought his contract. According to Transfermarkt, the transfer cost the Roman club €19.6 million.

Later, Shomurodov played on loan at Spezia and Cagliari. In total, he has played 122 matches in Serie A, scored 18 goals, and provided 11 assists.

The Uzbekistan national team — Eldor’s pride

Shomurodov is not only a club star but also a leader of the national team. To date, he has played 80 matches for Uzbekistan and scored 41 goals, making him the top scorer in the team's history.

Currently, the Uzbekistan national team is on the verge of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, and Eldor’s role in this process is invaluable.

Eldor Shomurodov is one of the brightest stars of Uzbek football. His success at Roma, the contract extension, and his records with the national team can serve as strong motivation for young players. Without a doubt, Eldor will continue to delight fans with many more goals to come!
