Madrid’s famous “Real” club has an academy that produces talented young footballers every year. However, not all of them get the chance to break into the first team.
Some players, released too early, blossom elsewhere and catch the eye of the “Royal Club” once again. Ashraf Hakimi and Martin Ødegaard are perfect examples.
What mistake did Real make?
In the past two to three years, Real sold two of its homegrown talents for a relatively low price:
- Miguel Gutiérrez — to Girona.
- Nico Paz — to Italian club Como.
The club earned just 10 million euros from both transfers. But...
How much have they increased in value now?
23-year-old left-back Miguel Gutiérrez is performing impressively at Girona, and his current market value has risen to around 25 million euros.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old versatile midfielder Nico Paz has made a name for himself in Serie A and seen a significant rise in value. Interested clubs are reportedly offering upwards of 35 million euros.
Is Real planning to bring them back?
Right now, Real Madrid is exploring the option of re-signing both players. But the cost of their earlier decisions has risen — they sold for 10 million euros and may now have to pay close to 60 million to get them back.
