Saudi Arabia to host U-17 Asian Championships for three more years: why did AFC choose it?
In April this year, the AFC U-17 Asian Championship held in Saudi Arabia marked a special chapter in the history of Uzbek football. Thanks to dynamic and impressive performances, our national team claimed the main trophy of the prestigious tournament.

Following the championship, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) convened an Executive Committee meeting to discuss the organization of upcoming editions. One of the main topics was determining host countries for the U-17 Asian Championships for the next three years.

As a result, it was decided that the 2026, 2027, and 2028 U-17 Asian Championships will be held in Saudi Arabia. This decision was based on the country’s political stability and its proven ability to organize high-level competitions.

Interestingly, China and Iraq also submitted bids. However, Iraq’s ongoing political instability forced the country to withdraw its candidacy early.

Subsequently, AFC continued discussions with Saudi Arabia and China. An agreement was reached: Saudi Arabia would host the boys’ U-17 tournaments, while China would host the girls’ events. This decision aimed to balance the interests of both parties.

Saudi Arabia’s renewed hosting rights were heavily influenced by the successfully organized U-17 Championship in April and the centralized final stages of the AFC Champions League. The high professionalism and responsibility displayed during those events left a strong impression on AFC officials and international observers.

The upcoming U-17 tournaments are expected to provide young players with valuable experience and major exposure. Saudi Arabia’s modern stadiums and infrastructure are regarded as top-tier not just in Asia, but globally.

In conclusion, the decision to hold the next three U-17 Asian Championships in Saudi Arabia further confirms the country’s growing influence in Asian football and is expected to raise competitiveness and professionalism in the region.
