Turon parts ways with legionnaires: what awaits Uzbek stars?
In this season of the Kazakhstan Premier League, the Turon team, which started the season with high hopes, found itself in the midst of serious problems halfway through the championship. Representing the Turkistan region, the club was at the center of attention for Uzbek football fans. This is because four experienced and talented Uzbek players — Shahboz Umarov, Behruz Askarov, Khurshid Mukhtorov, and Odiljon Abdumajidov — played in the team.

At the start of the season, the club’s management brought in several strong legionnaires to achieve high results. Most of them were experienced players who had shown themselves in various national championships. In particular, Shahboz Umarov is a well-known attacking footballer in Kazakhstan and previously won the cup and championship with "Ordabasy". This season, he contributed one goal and three assists in 10 matches for Turon.

Behruz Askarov was loaned from Tashkent’s "Pakhtakor". As a versatile player, he participated in 12 matches, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Interestingly, Askarov’s future now depends on the decision of the “lions” ("Pakhtakor"), as his next career step will be linked to their plans.

In defense, Khurshid Mukhtorov and Odiljon Abdumajidov attracted the fans’ attention with their consistent play. The experienced 31-year-old defender Mukhtorov played 12 matches and scored once. The 24-year-old Abdumajidov appeared in 13 league and cup matches, playing an important role in the team’s defense.

However, due to a financial crisis, the situation in the club changed drastically. Salary payment problems led first to the departure of the coaching staff, and then the players started leaving. After Vitaliy Zhukovsky’s departure, the team, under interim head coach Renat Abdulin, relied only on local players. In the June 14 match, Turon fielded a squad made up entirely of Kazakhstani players.

Soon after, the club announced its decision to part ways with all legionnaires. This was confirmed to the public by football commentator Alimjon Askar, who stated that contracts with the players were being terminated.

According to Askar, the mass recruitment of legionnaires was a mistake from the beginning. He believes it would have been more beneficial to trust and develop local players. He named those leaving the team as follows: Shahboz Umarov, Behruz Askarov, Khurshidbek Mukhtorov, Odilbek Abdumajidov, Egor Khatkevich, Ruslan Yudenkov, Jovan Pajovic, Luka Zgurskiy, Vasiliy Sovpel, Goran Miloiko, and Konstantin Dorofeev.

Now, a period of finding new clubs begins for the Uzbek players. At the moment, another Kazakhstan Premier League club, "Zhenis", is showing serious interest in Shahboz Umarov and is actively trying to sign him.

In short, Turon’s big plans at the start of the season have unfortunately ended in failure. The management, which once pinned hopes on legionnaires, has now decided to rely solely on local players. This may open new doors for Uzbek footballers. We wish them new teams and success.
