The captain of Uzbekistan’s national team, Eldor Shomurodov, gave his first open comment after transferring to Turkey’s “Istanbul Başakşehir” club. In his interview with the “90minutUz” podcast, he spoke about why he chose “Başakşehir,” offers from other countries, and preparations for the new season.
According to Eldor, there were very big financial offers from the UAE and Qatar. Other strong Turkish clubs also invited him to their squads. However, the most important factor for Shomurodov was to have regular playing practice, considering the national team's qualification for the World Cup. “Başakşehir” is a young club, the pressure there is much lower, and at the same time, it participates in the UEFA Conference League. This gives Eldor the opportunity to play on European fields and maintain good sports form.
In the interview, Shomurodov emphasized that the main factors in his decision are as follows:
- The opportunity to work in a calm, low-pressure environment;
- Participation in European competitions — UEFA Conference League;
- Regular playing practice and maintaining a high physical condition;
- Serious preparation for the national team's historic World Cup journey.
As the footballer noted, through regular playing practice with “Başakşehir,” he wants to contribute not only to himself but also to the national team.
When will Eldor have his first minutes in the new club?
“Istanbul Başakşehir,” as part of preparations for the new season, will play friendly matches: on July 13 against “Hertha” (21:30), and on July 17 against “Fortuna” (19:00). Fans are eagerly waiting to see Eldor Shomurodov on the field in his new jersey in these very games.
