After the Super League Round 18 match between Surkhon and Bunyodkor (3:1), the capital club’s head coach Ilyos Zeytullaev attended the press conference to share his thoughts on the game, the challenges of the season, and future plans.
Thoughts on the match
According to Zeytullaev, the team expected much more from this match:
— We started the game well, but the first goal we conceded had a negative impact on our players. We knew Surkhon was a technically strong team. They don’t forgive mistakes. We must draw the right conclusions from this defeat, — he said.
Difference between playing against giants and mid-table teams
The coach believes that it’s easier for the team to find motivation against big clubs, but more difficult against defensive-minded sides:
— We have many young players and we are gradually developing them. Playing against open, attacking teams is easier. Against Pakhtakor or Neftchi, special mental preparation is not needed. But against mid-table teams, we really struggle, — Zeytullaev noted.
Hamrobekov’s departure and opportunities for youth
He also spoke about the changes in midfield after the departure of midfielder Odil Hamrobekov:
— Odil was a very high-level player. We worked together for only six months, but his work ethic and attitude were excellent. After moving to Iran, he won his first trophy — the Super Cup. I congratulate him. His departure creates opportunities for young players, — the coach said.
Why Nosir Abdusalomov is on the bench
Zeytullaev explained that Nosir’s recent absence from the starting lineup was due to physical condition:
— During the FIFA days, he was with the national team, and after returning, he started working on regaining his form. If he keeps working, he has a bright future ahead, — he said.
Question about the national team and personal goals
Journalists also asked about his candidacy being considered for the national team:
— I still have a lot to learn. If the opportunity arises, I’ll be happy, but right now I’m enjoying working with Bunyodkor. Time will tell what happens, — he replied.
From Zeytullaev’s words, it’s clear that working with youth, overcoming psychological barriers, and improving tactical adaptability remain Bunyodkor’s main priorities. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what results the team can achieve in the remaining matches.
